Common questions

What’s the difference between Marbella and Estepona?

Price and pace, mainly: Marbella averages €4,200–4,300/m² with the coast’s deepest stock and widest price range (Notary Statistics Portal, 12 months to September 2025), while Estepona is generally more affordable and more genuinely Spanish in daily life, with a smaller international community. Both are part of the coast’s “Golden Triangle” along with Benahavís.

Is Benahavís walkable, or do I need a car?

You’ll need a car. Benahavís has no coastline, no train, and very little within walking distance outside the historic village itself; it’s the most car-dependent of the five areas Qlistings covers.

Where’s the best value for a two-bedroom apartment?

Of the areas with sourced figures, East Marbella is the most affordable at roughly €3,850/m² (Notary Statistics Portal, 12 months to September 2025). Estepona and Mijas are generally considered more affordable still, but we don’t quote an official figure for them.

Can I get to Málaga airport without a car?

Only if you’re in Mijas-Fuengirola or Málaga West: the Cercanías C1 line runs from Fuengirola through Benalmádena and Torremolinos to Málaga and the airport. Marbella, Estepona and Benahavís have no rail service, so a car or taxi is needed.

Is there a train between Marbella and Málaga?

No. The only rail on this stretch is the Málaga–Fuengirola line, which doesn’t reach Marbella. A government feasibility study covering a possible Fuengirola–Marbella extension is underway, with a revised completion date of April 2027 (El Español, 8 August 2026).

What’s La Zagaleta?

A gated ultra-luxury estate of around 230 villas in Benahavís, built from 1992 onward with its own two private golf courses, an equestrian centre and a helipad. It sits at the very top of the coast’s price range.

Which areas have Blue Flag beaches?

Marbella has 8 beaches and 2 marinas awarded for 2026 (ADEAC, the Blue Flag programme’s awarding body in Spain). Benahavís, being landlocked, has none. For other areas, ask Q.
